Lucarise iced cappuccino with thick milk foam, topped with gold coffee on a cafe table

Iced Cappuccino Recipe: How to Make It at Home Without a Machine

Quick answer: To make an iced cappuccino at home without a machine, dissolve one Lucarise cappuccino sachet in a little hot water, shake it with cold milk in a closed jar until foamy, pour it over ice and sprinkle the gold coffee topping on the foam. It takes about three minutes.

An iced cappuccino is the summer version of the café classic: coffee, cold milk and ice, crowned with a thick layer of foam. In the Gulf it makes sense almost all year round. This recipe shows two ways to make it: a quick one with an instant sachet, and a barista-style one with espresso. If you want to know more about the hot drink first, read our guide to what a cappuccino is.

What Is an Iced Cappuccino?

An iced cappuccino is coffee served cold over ice with a little milk and a thick cap of milk foam. A hot cappuccino is traditionally equal parts espresso, steamed milk and foam in a small cup. The iced version keeps the same idea, strong coffee and lots of foam, but it is served in a tall glass with ice.

Iced Cappuccino vs Iced Latte

The two drinks look similar, but the balance of milk and foam is different[1]:

What You Need

  • 1 sachet of Lucarise Cappuccino with Gold Coffee Topping (the main sachet and the 2 g gold coffee topping sachet)
  • A little hot water (2 to 3 tablespoons)
  • About 120 ml cold milk, dairy or a barista-style plant milk
  • Ice
  • A jar with a lid, or a handheld milk frother

How to Make an Iced Cappuccino Without a Machine

  1. Empty the main cappuccino sachet into a jar.
  2. Add a little hot water and stir until the powder has fully dissolved.
  3. Add the cold milk, close the jar and shake hard for 20 to 30 seconds until foamy. A handheld frother works too.
  4. Fill a tall glass with ice, pour in the drink and spoon the foam on top.
  5. Sprinkle the gold coffee topping over the foam and enjoy straight away.

How to Make an Iced Cappuccino With Espresso

If you have an espresso machine or a moka pot, you can make the barista version:

  1. Brew one or two shots of espresso, or a small cup of strong moka coffee.
  2. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the coffee over it.
  3. Add a splash of cold milk.
  4. Froth more cold milk with a frother, or by pumping it in a French press, until thick, and spoon this cold foam on top.

Use cold foam rather than hot steamed milk: hot foam melts the ice quickly and makes the drink watery[1].

Tips for a Better Iced Cappuccino

  • Dissolve first: powder does not dissolve well in cold milk, so always start with a little hot water.
  • Shake for foam: the foam is what makes it a cappuccino. A closed jar and 30 seconds of shaking is enough.
  • Use very cold milk: it foams better and keeps the ice from melting too fast.
  • Stronger or lighter: use less milk for a stronger coffee taste, or more milk for a softer drink.
  • Topping last: sprinkle the gold coffee just before drinking so it stays aromatic.

Iced cappuccino: quick questions

What is an iced cappuccino?

An iced cappuccino is espresso or strong coffee served over ice with a little cold milk and a thick layer of milk foam on top. It is the cold version of a classic cappuccino.

What is the difference between an iced cappuccino and an iced latte?

An iced cappuccino has less milk and a thick cap of foam, so the coffee tastes stronger. An iced latte has more milk and little or no foam, so it is milder and creamier.

Can you make an iced cappuccino without a machine?

Yes. Dissolve an instant cappuccino sachet in a little hot water, shake it with cold milk in a closed jar to build foam, then pour it over ice.

Does an iced cappuccino have caffeine?

Yes. The caffeine comes from the coffee. In an instant cappuccino it depends on the brand and the amount of coffee in the sachet, so check the label of the product you use.

Is this iced cappuccino sweetened?

Lucarise cappuccinos are sweetened with stevia Reb-M and have no added sugar, so you do not need to add sweetener. The milk powder in the mix naturally contains a little lactose (milk sugar).
